Hi Elena, thank you for this helpful guide. I have a question which I was wondering if you could help me with. I had reached out to a supervisor who went through my proposal and provided feedback and agreed to supervise me. However, I got rejected by the uni. I am wondering what could have gone wrong and if I should reach out to the same supervisor again. I'd really appreciate your insight.

Hi Fiona, I don't have an answer for this, it is usually very dependent on the university. What I know is that there is a certain level of randomness to these things. You could have the perfect CV on paper, but in the end it also depend on what the department is looking for right now. For instance, if it is a political science department and they happen to have too many political theorists from the previous cohorts, they will not get a new one on board on the following years. I would encourage you to ask for feedback from your potential supervisor.
